NEW INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT
horizontal bar

"New" industries are typically those experiencing high global growth rates, very short product life-cycles and rapid ICT convergence. Such knowledge-intensive industries are often facilitated by bio and nanotechnologies. The enhanced use of microelectronics is also a feature of many such industries.

Commercial opportunities in new industries are moving beyond client and supplier relationships to broader collaborative opportunities emerging from major new international initiatives; for example telematics, SKA (super-radiotelescope), Galileo/GNSS (next generation global navigation), and others. The latter opportunities are realized through cluster activities which spawn multi-disciplinary projects; technology roadmapping, which sets the strategic direction for an industry, and sectoral capability mapping, which determines gaps in competencies/infrastructure as well as industry strengths.

Consistent with the above, GIC services include:

  • Cluster (& ‘Supercluster") Establishment, Management & Facilitation
(eg. AEEMA Industry Cluster Qld, National Telematics Industry Cluster, Square Kilometre Array Cluster etc
  • Workshop Facilitation
(eg. Mining Technology Services Action Agenda)
  • Technology Road Mapping
(eg National Electronics Industry Action Agenda - telematics and national photonics roadmap)
  • New Industry Strategy & Facilitation
(eg. telematics, photonics, RF technologies, smart lighting, intelligent networks etc)
