John Humphreys - Managing Director

John Humphreys has spent most of his career leading the development of new, knowledge-intensive technologies and industries. His longer-term clients have included Dascom (next generation networking) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (China); the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO); the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (New South Wales); Thinking Machines Corporation (US–supercomputing), and, more recently, the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (Canberra). John has worked with the Bendigo Bank in the area of community portal development and collaboratively with telecommunications consultants in the development of a knowledge-based strategy for North Queensland.

During a five year period between 1995 to 2000 John was the General Manager of the "Technology Quadrangle of South-East Qld" initiative, established by the Vice-Chancellors in the region to accelerate knowledge-based economic and employment growth. As a key component of this role, he oversighted economic development and international relations for the Gold Coast City Council, between 1997-1999, during which time he conceptualized and established the foundations for the Pacific Innovation Corridor. This built on earlier work performed as Executive Officer of the Qld Science & Technology Council, in establishing the State-wide blueprint and arranging implementation of Stage 1 of QuestNet, the communications network that now links all academic institutions in the State.

He was a member of the Steering Group reviewing the establishment of the $170M Synchrotron initiative, now under construction in Victoria and is currently leading the development of a new Australian telematics industry, hubbed out of that State. As a cluster expert, he managed a major ‘’new paradigm’ cluster study for the Australian Government, recommending a new approach for the development of such entities. He is called upon to present at a range of forums around Australia, typically on the subject of technology and industry development in ‘frontier industries’. He has made an impressive career out of identifying emerging industry trends and detecting ‘on the horizon’ opportunities.

In addition to his extensive industry experience, John has been a lecturer in a university Masters program (technology management); Divisional Secretary of CSIRO’s inaugural Division of Information Technology (Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra); inaugural manager of the Office of Research & Development of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and senior consultant of commercial services at the same university. He was also General Manager of the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s technology R&D centre at the Gold Coast, the only offshore base ever established by this major enterprise.

Janice Humphreys - Director

Since 2002, Janice has managed the International Centre on behalf of the Australian Electrical and Electronic Industry Association (AEEMA), under the aegis of Austrade’s National TradeStart Program. The Centre is Austrade’s only Export Centre having a national focus on specialist high-technology industries (nanotechnology, photonics, wireless, telematics, ITS, medical devices and intelligent home systems) within the ICT sector. Prior to this appointment, she established and managed Austrade’s first National Export Access Centre on behalf of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA), resulting in the doubling of export resources within the Centre.

As a Director of Global Innovation Centre Pty Ltd., Janice possesses more than 15 years experience delivering a range of specialised export and technology management services to the ICT, electronics, multimedia, environmental management, , mining, nuclear science, education and research sectors in Australia. (Clients include Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation [ANSTO], Thinking Machines Corporation, Queensland Rail, Griffith University, QUT, AIMIA, AEEMA, University of Queensland, CSIRO, Environment Management Industry of Qld (EMIQ).

She is currently the President of the Organisation for Women in International Trade in Queensland and a member of the Recruitment Consulting Services of Australia.

In 2007, Janice received a prestigious "Excellence in Client Service Award" at the Austrade National Conference in New South Wales.

Lyn Gibson - Business Development Manager

Lyn is the Business Development Manager of Global Innovation Centre, with duties including project management, accounting, research, business planning for clients and assisting with export administration. She has a broad industry background in many areas of administration, accounting, project management, marketing and business planning. She has traveled the world extensively as well as working in a number of areas in Australia.

During her long and varied career, she has worked as a Ministerial assistant, a marketing executive for a five star hotel in Darwin, and was involved with the opening of the Yulara township/resort at Uluru, in Central Australia.

Lyn has also worked in the commercial world for many years, encompassing accounting, corporate finance and financial planning. Over the last six years, she has supported small businesses in the management of their financial affairs and the development of future business strategies. Clients included Corporate Benefits Pty Ltd, specialist medical practices,  architectural firms and consultants.
